I saw an ad on TV last night for one of the Law and Orders (Laws and Orders?) or CSIs or some such, which said:

OSCAR WINNER ROBIN WILLIAMS
(picture of Oscar winner Robin Williams)
IS A DANGEROUS PSYCHO
(picture of Oscar winner Robin Williams looking like a dangerous psycho)

And I thought, well, maybe he is, but what sort of character is he playing?

Also, I got an email today at work. The government agency we work for has a national convention each year; this year, with the conference on about the same time as the Olympics, they're having a virtual torch relay leading up to it. Each organisation in the network puts the virtual torch on its website for a week before handing it over to the next. Right, so despite me thinking it's all a bit naff, next week is our week to host the torch and I received the instruction email today. Here's part of it:

The Torch needs to be uploaded to [your] website on 13 June and downloaded on 20 June when [the next organisation] will take it over.

Is that terminology right? I'm fine with the "uploading" part of it; but "downloading"? Shouldn't it just be "and removed"? Or perhaps I'm just being oversensitive because the woman who sent it called me Alison.

At any rate, all this torch relay stuff reminds me of my third-ever entry in this journal: with the 2004 Olympics approaching, I wrote about what happened the night the torch came to the City by the Sea on its way to the Sydney Olympics in 2000. Eight years on and I still think that was one of the worst days of my life, albeit with a pleasingly surreal ending.
